How To Paint Different Shades Of Blue With Swirls Accent Nails Design

For this nail design you’ll need:
A light blue nail polish
A medium blue nail polish
A sheer white or very light blue nail polish
One or two thin nail art brushes
A clear topcoat polish

First, shape your nails, my nails are an almond shape for this nail design. Any of the more rounded and soft nail shapes (almond, round, oval, even squoval) do feel more cohesive with the accent swirls design, but you can choose any shape.

The almond nail shape flatters all hands, visually lengthening the look of fingers. It’s a popular choice, growing in popularity, especially in the last few years.

To create an almond nail tip, file your nails to a center point at the tip in a rounded angular shape. Keep the sides straight to prevent over-rounding the nail tip, turning your almond nails into an oval nail shape.

You can choose one or several nails as accent swirl nails. I chose my pointer and ring fingernails. Paint your chosen accent nails with one coat of sheer white or light blue polish.

Then, paint two thin coats of polish on the thumb and pinky nails in medium blue polish.

Then on the remaining index fingernail, apply two thin coats of light blue polish. Allow all polish to dry completely before moving forward.

Once the polish is completely dry on all nails, you can move to the accent swirls.

Then, using one of the thin nail art brushes, paint the first swirl in the light blue nail polish on each accent nail. You can alternate the amount of pressure while painting to make a thinner or more wide swirl line. There is no perfect swirl line. Allow the swirl to flow into an organic shape.

Nail polish dries from the top layer down, so give the light blue swirls at least fifteen minutes to fully dry before creating the medium blue swirls to prevent smudging. I chose to follow the lines of the light blue swirl, but you can also get creative and make overlapping but not parallel swirl lines.
